As you may know from my last blog, I just finished designing a workshop on going from crisis management to control management. When we operate in crisis mode and an employee comes to us with a problem, we are quick to give the solution. The employee goes on his/her merry way and fixes the problem. [...]

May 5th, 2009, Author: Deborah Mackin, Categories: Workplace/Employee IssuesIn Stephen M.R. Covey’s book, The Speed of Trust, he suggests that trust is critical to the workplace because of its effect on speed and cost. When we have high trust, speed increases because we believe in the other person. As speed increases, cost goes down. Conversely, in a low trust or trust bankruptcy environment, [...]

- NDC Consultants mentioned in this month's ACF article on cost effective meetings:
"Of course, all of the cost-saving measures in the world won’t help if attendees walk away from the event feeling as though they’ve wasted their time. Matthew Harrington is marketing manager for New Directions Consulting Inc., a North Bennington, VT-based company that specializes in meeting efficiency and productivity. He finds that many organizations make the mistake of spending too much time on information sharing and not enough time tackling challenges. “Information should not be the predominant reason for the meeting,” he said. “Information should already be flowing throughout the ranks whether it’s a pre-read or something else, so you can get to the decision making and problem solving and answering the question, ‘How do we want to move forward?’?”
Deborah Mackin, president of New Directions Consulting, advocates making sure attendees are well informed and prepared to participate in the meeting. As she commented in her blog, “I’m always struck by the statistic about agendas. Seventy-five percent of meetings do not have agendas distributed ahead of time. That’s like getting in the car (for me in Vermont) and deciding to go to Chicago without a map.”"
